Yes, Acrylic paint is one of the most popular paints for artists and crafters alike. It can be used on almost any surface and create beautiful effects for your paintings. So, My options are Golden and Liquitex. They seem to be named most often as favorites. I also wanted a thinner paint and went with Liquitex soft body basically because of availability. I haven’t tried much else but I would consider trying Golden.

I know this discussion was from a long time ago but I just found it. No one has mentioned my favourite acrylic company - M. Graham. It is luscious and thick all at a seasonable price. What more could you want?

Thanks for sharing. I read some reviews on the paint that indicate that they stay workable a little longer making them good for wet in wet techniques. I’m intrigued and will have to give them a try.

I find Chroma Atelier Interactive Acrylics special. They can stay open longer with a water spritz and can be reopened days later with their Unlocking Medium. Yet they dry as quickly as any other acrylic if you don’t do the above. And my second choice is Winsor and newton professional, as well as the odd bits of golden fluid. I found w&n ones give nice coverage for the big block of colors and can be thinned down nicely for fine details.

I’m a big fan of Golden Heavy Body Acrylics. I also used to use Winsor and Newton almost exclusively, but when they decided to change their factory location I found they weren’t as deeply pigmented and within six months to a year (I usually buy 200ml plus tubes to save money) the paint inside would begin to, well change consistency and bubble like there was an active bacterial culture inside. I never had that problem before the switch. I tried contacting them but they unfortunately claimed their process hadn’t changed, that they were putting less pigment in some because of environmental concerns and at the same time decided I didn’t understand the difference in opaquness in paints. So Golden it is now. If I have to save money I really enjoy Grumbacher and even their student line “Academy”. They’re not as heavy body as I prefer, but the pigmentation is really great for the price. I don’t like Liquitex at all. They didn’t seem pigmented enough for me and even their heavier bases just feel too watery in action and try they get clumpy in the tube for me. Also no option for a non-Hansa yellow that I could find at the time. Golden OPEN were a disappointment to me even in 60% humidity with a fine mister and their mediums they locked up within 15 minutes tops.

I’ve seen them and never tried, but sounds like I should! Thank you. Painting in a fixed budget is an art in and of itself.

I gave up on acrylics at least for now. Mi just could not blend with them.

Greetings Rosie,
I have been browsing thru this thread on acrylic paints and saw that you mentioned about using some of the “Master’s Touch” line. I bought some from HL, that doesn’t stand for Hard Luck, but I’m sure you probably know who, and I got some labeled heavy bodied. I tried it a few times and was wondering, the tubes from the package look just alike with the ones on the shelf (open stock) and was wondering if you know if they’re the same?

Neither the ones inside the package nor the open stock ones say anything about them being a heavy body paint. I wanted heavy body so I could have the best of both worlds, e.g. impasto and being able too thin with water. What’s your opinion on them? It seems they are doing away with brand name’s with the exception of Liquitex!

When I use acrylics, I enjoy Liquitex as well!
