Watercolor and Humidity

Yesterday I went out to plein air, and I went to the Marina. I was so confused when my paint went on the paper and was just, there. No blending, no bleeding, no lifting. Nothing. I usually layer and glaze alot, and I lift some, and blend on the page. It went onto the paper like it was a marker on cheap paper. I would get about an inch of the brush stroke and then nothing. I couldn’t move the paint around anymore.

So, I was at the Marina and it was quite hot as well, (in the 90s). I came home and tried the paper and the paint and it acted similar. Today, I tried the paper again and it was a bit more normal. The paper further down the pad was fine. Either I had 2 bad sheets in the pad, or it was the heat and humidity.

Anyone have a similar experience?

Greetings Amy,
I am new on here as well. I am not well experienced with watercolors, I’ve only tried them a few times. However I am a little curious, has this ever happened before and have you recently tried some new mediums/materials? Or have you been using them on a regular bases?

I had purchased a new art pad and had made an oil pastel drawing on it and went to frame it and it wouldn’t fit the frame! Turn’s out when it was milled, they included the tear out tabs in the measurement. Instead of it being 11x14 as described on the front it was like11x13 1/4. I have the artwork on here as a matter of fact. Cheers!
