Cut down a painting, canvas on 3mm MDF board

I have a 12x16" painting that I want to cut down to 12x12". It is on Centurion Deluxe Oil Primed Linen Panel wrapped on a rigid 3mm MDF board. It’s only about 1/8" thick. How can I cut it down and preserve the painting?

thank you,
Laurel

I don’t think you can without damaging the canvas.
The only way I think it can be done is to remove the canvas from the panel and then cut it to size.
You will need to use a hair dryer.
Start from the back of the canvas panel and apply heat to the sticker and remove it and do the same thing with the canvas. You will also need a plastic scraper or a putty knife to lift the canvas. The dryer will soften the glue and make it easier to remove. It will also soften the glue that is used to glue the canvas to the panel.
