Oil painting, drying and varnishing

first off, i have zero experience with gamvar, having only used a glossy varnish by schmicke and a matt varnish by winsor & newton. but i have read lots of advice from natural pigments and watched their youtube videos with demos by real live artists (e.g. eric johnson). i also bought their wax paste, which comprises beeswax and OMS, because you can apply a thin coat over a glossy varnish to take off the shine. since what you are describing sounds like maybe there was a thicker “pool” of varnish in one spot, maybe a beeswax paste is something you could try?
anyway, i wish you luck in getting your painting out the door!

Thank You! I actually took a bit of beeswax from a candle and applied it to the spot and it evened out perfectly. I believe you are correct in that that area had to much varnish. It was the last to dry.
